摘要：

There are many projects and systems on online education. The emphasis has been placed on the content of the material and relatively less has addressed the security issues. This paper addresses the large-scale online education development project of SPACE (the School of Professional And Continuing Education, The University of Hong Kong) and investigates why in the online education system being developed a good security design is crucial. The proposed solution to the student authentication problem of the system is going to be discussed in depth together with its impact on the overall system design.
