This paper aims to review recent publications on surveys of morbidity and psychiatric comorbidity across several populations. Apart from studies measuring the total morbidity in nationwide samples, several publications focused on specific disorders, giving details about risk factors, identifying subtypes, and testing the current diagnostic criteria. Despite the high rates of psychiatric disorders detected in the general population, few studies include the measurement of disabilities to estimate levels of treatment needs.
