Habitat use by the fawn of roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) during their first months of life

The monitoring of 27 fawns of roe deer (Capreolus capreolus L.) was performed using telemetry in the reserve of Chize (Poitou-Charentes, western France). Mean home range size of fawns during their first months of life was estimated using minimum convex polygon method to 31.35 ha. These results were compared to those obtained using other estimators of home range size. Whatever the method we considered, no between-sex difference was reported in home range size of fawns. The marked overlapping between home ranges throughout the years pointed out the existence of specific criteria for habitat selection by fawns.
