摘要：
The Department of Physics at the University of the Witwatersrand has established a well-equipped laboratory to study materials in the solid state and the nature of magnetism using Mossbauer spectroscopy: Under the direction of Professor Herman Pollak, who will be remembered as the chairman of the 1996 ISIAME Conference, researchers have made significant contributions to solving industrial problems involving asbestos, gold, diamonds and other minerals.
