Completely relaxed - A new approach to insulating glass

The hermetically sealed cavity of insulating glass units offers significant advantages. Therefore, it is the prominent characteristic of insulating glass in accordance with DIN EN 1279. The seal prevents a pressure equalization with the environment. Pressure differences, resulting from temperature and air pressure change, can achieve significant values and even lead to glass breakage. Therefore, for large height differences between production and installation place, an adjustment to the external air pressure is produced on site. For very big cavities (e.g. for the integration of sunscreens) these measures are not sufficient. The article deals with the possibilities of a pressure equalization and presents the first results of the IFT research project pressure relaxed MIG.
