A comparison of the nucleation and growth of shear bands in Ti and Zr-based bulk metallic glasses by in-situ tensile tests

摘要
The paper reported that the shear bands in the Ti40Zr25Be20Cu12Ni3 bulk metallic glass (BMG) nucleate under the tensile stress at the center of the plate sample and grow to the side under the shear stress, while the shear bands in the Zr41.2Ti13.8Cu12.5Ni10Be22.5 BMG initiate under the shear stress from the side and grow to the center. This indicates that the easier the free volume in the BMG re-arranged for shear bands formation under the tensile stress, the more ductile the BMG is. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
