Polarized emission of PbWO4 and CdWO4 crystals

摘要
Polarization properties of the main emission and the phosphorescence of PbWO4 and CdWO4 crystals have been investigated under polarized synchrotron excitation in the energy region 3.5-35 eV. Strong phosphorescence has been found at temperatures 4.2-50 K in all available PbWO4 samples. Both the blue and the green emission bands are present in the phosphorescence emission spectrum in a ratio specific for the each studied sample. The main emission and the phosphorescence of PbWO4 are both polarized along the C crystallographic axis in the full excitation region investigated. The main emission of CdWO4. is polarized in a plane normal to the C axis. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
