Recent trends show an increase in usage of mobile devices in business and home environments. With these devices getting more integrated into the lives of many people, great security concern arises. However, these devices continue to use passwords or Personal Identification Number (PIN) which are not suitable for touch screens displays they feature and are proven to be unsafe, tedious to use, and hard to recall. We developed a new authentication scheme that will take advantage of touch technology using action-based state transition that can be used with minimal reading skills. Using image manipulation instead of text, we tried to address the usability and recall difficulties present with existing authentication schemes. Initial deployment with college students shows high level of interest among testers and approval of the testers for the scheme as a viable replacement for text-based passwords. Results show a 70 % login success rate with an expected increase as the system become more familiar with users.
