Dynamic Behavior of a Cracked Concrete Bridge under a Moving Vehicle

摘要
Highway bridges are subjected to the dynamic tire forces of moving vehicles. This paper deals with the dynamic responses of a cracked concrete highway bridges induced by passing vehicles. The bridge is modeled Euler beam and a crack model is introduced to model the crack in the beam. Two-axle vehicle is used to represent the vehicle. A coupled bridge-vehicle system is built using the finite element analysis. Newmark direct integration is adopted to calculate the dynamic responses of the coupled system. The effect of the cracks on the response of the bridge is studied. And the road roughness of the bridge and speed of the vehicle on the dynamic response of the bridge is also investigated. Studies in the present paper show that the effect of the cracks on the dynamic response is significant; this indicates it is possible to identify the cracks from the measurement of the response of the bridge.
