About the stress of thin-walled interference fit assemblies under eccentric axial load

摘要
Helical bevel gears or thrust cones are loaded with an eccentric axial force. When built as an interference fit the calculation can be done using the Kirchhoff plate theory. If the wall of the hub gets thinner the boundary conditions of that theory are not met any more. In this paper a new analytical solution based on empirical results is presented and compared to experimental analyses. This solution meets as well the Kirchhoff plate as the thin-walled hub. Furthermore a simple formula to calculate the gaping force is presented.
