Thin films of oxide ferrites produced by pulsed laser deposition

Thin films of Mn1-xZnxFe2O4 and BaFe12O19 were deposited on sapphire substrates by pulsed laser deposition from sintered ceramic targets. The deposition was carried out in an oxygen atmosphere. The X-ray diffraction analysis of Ba ferrite films were made. The X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) analysis of Mn-Zn ferrite films confirms the full stoichiometric transfer from targets to substrates. Perpendicular and in-plane magnetic measurements were carried out at magnetic field of 10 kOe using Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM). Magnetic properties (saturation magnetization, remanent magnetization, coercive force) were estimated from the hysteresis loops. The Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) micrographs show a smooth surface. The density of the droplet contamination is low and the droplet size is less than 1 mu m.
