Rare Food Allergy Elicitors: back on track with IgE

Food allergies sometimes result in life-threatening reactions and are relevant in adult patients as well as in children. In the clinical routine patients report a wide variety of symptoms due to an assumed food allergy. A detailed case history is very important to exclude non-allergic diseases (e.g., lactose intolerance). In this regard a patient diary for a period of at least four weeks to record possible triggering factors can be very helpful. The present contribution shows the role of selected rare but often overlooked allergens and the corresponding allergologic work-up.
