摘要
In order to excavate rock bed without reaction, the CO2 laser was utilized. Feasibility of using laser energy to excavate rock was evaluated. Two kinds of rock were subjected to CO2 laser beam in preliminary experiment. The cross section of rock samples subjected to CO2 laser was observed carefully along the depth from the irradiated surface. 1) Sandstone was mostly melted and partly vaporized. 2) Granite has many cracks around kerf filled with molten rock. 3)The molten part formed the dress. The formation of dress reduced the excavation effectively. Further study was conducted to reduce the effectually of the dress. Laser power, processing rate and beam width on rock surface were taken as parameters to find the condition without forming the dress. Also new method was developed to remove the dress effectively.
