摘要
A bacteriorhodopsin (bR)-based photoelectrical cell has been fabricated by micromachining. A thin film with 2 mu m hole arrays is used as a support membrane for a purple membrane (PM). This highly oriented, thin and uniform PM is suspended on the 2 mu m holes by electrodeposition. The membrane is less than 100 nm thick. The support membrane makes it easy to keep the bR molecules in contact with water. A stable photocurrent generated by the photoelectrical cell indicates that the suspended PM transports protons across it. This photocell can be used as a light-to-electrochemical energy converter or model membrane on a pH or pK(a) gradient.
