Wet abrasive wear of ordered Fe3Al alloys

The wear mechanism and associated wear rate of ordered Fe3Al alloys in DO3 and B2 structures has been studied in wet test conditions. The morphology of the worn surface and the debris was investigated using SEM and XRD. The distribution of hydrogen penetration into the surface layer of the Fe3Al alloys was determined by SIMS. Under wet conditions, there is a strong interaction between abrasion and hydrogen attack With increasing applied load, the surface layer of the Fe3Al alloys suffered severe hydrogen aback during wet abrasion. The experimental results have shown that mechanical removal of Fe3Al alloys is dominant at higher loads in the wet-wear process. The wear loss of the B2 ordered Fe3Al was slightly lower than that of the DO3 state at the same loads. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science S.A.
