Investigation of dehydrogenation processes in disordered γ-Mg(BH4)2

摘要
The structural and compositional properties of as-received and ball-milled gamma-Mg(BH4)(2) have been investigated, during heating. After transformation to the beta-phase (via unindexed epsilon-phase), the decomposition pathway of gamma-Mg(BH4)(2) is similar to that reported for alpha-Mg(BH4)(2). An amorphous Mg(BH4)(2) phase is produced after ball-milling (in 100 bar H-2) gamma-Mg(BH4)(2) for 2 h. This amorphous phase dehydrogenates via a different pathway with release of diborane. Various unknown compounds are observed in XRD and Raman spectra, which might be related to the formation of polyboranes during decomposition. Mg, B and finally MgB2 are observed during heating to 600 degrees C. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
