Synthesis and Properties of Poly (p-phenylene vinylene) with Carbazole in the Side Chain

摘要
We synthesized PPV with carbazole in the side chain, and we examined the polymer's characteristics. Our purpose was improved the luminescence properties of PPV when used as a luminescence material. The number-average molecular weight and the weight-average molecular weight of the polymer, determined by GPC using a polystyrene standard, were 5.5 x 10(3) and 6.0 x 10(3), respectively. The synthesized polymer showed photoluminescence peaks at 380 and 480 nm. Further, from the TGA measurements of polymer, showed that the polymer had a 10% thermal weight loss initiation temperature of 345 degrees C.
