摘要
Bibliography about the relationship between social support and health among the elderly is characterized by debate about the role played by functional and structural dimensions of support. Present research (n = 418) proposes a model pointing the differentiation between sources of support and reciprocity as key aspects to account for health among the elderly. Results obtained through structural equation modeling (SEM) highlight that the existence of reciprocal relations is associated to health through the satisfaction with social support and the existence of contrary health effects on family support. The importance of a proper differentiation of the role played by different sources of support is confirmed. Further research is needed to clarify the acts/behaviors, originating adequacy of support across its source.
