An Internet-based virtual coordinate measuring machine (IVCMM) is proposed and implemented in this paper for generating or testing inspection plan for coordinate measuring machine (CMM) and the training of CMM operation via the Internet. The proposed virtual coordinate measuring machine (VCMM) consists of three modules, which are working table, portal frame and sliding guide, and vertical shaft, principal axis, and probe, respectively. The VCMM is implemented using Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML). Nest relations of the components of the VCMM are defined for achieving the movements of the VCMM. An IVCMM website is constructed using Internet Information Services (IIS) and Active Server Page (ASP). Experiments are conducted to verify the feasibility of proposed IVCMM.
