THE PLACE OF THE LEXICON IN THE TEACHING OF PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE: AN ANALYSIS OF THE COMMON NATIONAL CURRICULUM BASE (BNCC)

The present work brings some reflections about the place of the lexicon in the Portuguese Language teaching proposals of the Early Years of Elementary School present in the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC). For a deeper understanding of this theme, we adopted as theoretical support the studies from Waring (1997), Henriksen (1999), Leffa (2000), Cunha (2001), Nation (2001), Antunes (2012), Pereira (2013). Characterized as documentary research with a qualitative approach, we seek to analyze at BNCC how the Portuguese language teaching proposal is structured and how the teaching of the lexicon has been explored in it. The results of our analysis indicate that the BNCC's approach to the lexicon is still very simplified and does not highlight its true role as a builder of verbal communication, nor its great relevance to the students' in-depth knowledge of the properties and structure of the Portuguese language.
