Application of algorithm theory to data mining

Data mining is a major field in database applications, and is a key technology for future information business. Through our experience in developing the SONAR (System for Optimized Numeric Association Rules) data mining system, we demonstrate that algorithm theory is crucial in designing an efficient data mining system. In particular, we give algorithms for computing optimal association rules and efficient decision trees, which are fundamental tools in data mining.
