Ordering enhancement of Cu underlayer on CoPt thin films

摘要
We have studied the Cu underlayer effect using CoPt (90 nm)/Cu (10 nm) films. For both the bi-layer CoPt/Cu and the single-layer CoPt samples annealed at 650degreesC for 10 min, the former exhibits stronger X-ray diffraction peaks of ordered CoPt phase. The coercivity of the CoPt/Cu film is about two times as large as the single-layer CoPt. The higher coercivity can be attributed to the ordering enhancement by Cu underlayer. The deltaM value of CoPt/Cu film is 60% smaller than that of single-layer CoPt. It appears that Cu underlayer significantly decreases exchange coupling in the CoPt/Cu film. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V.
