Investigation on the possibility of using diluted in water unsaturated polyester resins in particleboards and fiberboards

摘要
The possibility of using modified unsaturated polyester resins as a combining substance for the production of particleboards has been investigated. The effect of with acrylonitrile modified unsaturated polyester resin (UP-R), of modified and diluted with water UP-R and its mixtures with Urea-Formaldehyde (UF) resin on the mechanical properties and the water resistance of particle boards has been studied. It was determined that the highest mechanical properties were found in the fiberboards. The boards with modified and diluted UP-R revealed the best exploiting properties in boards with a high content of wood filler. A mixture of UP-R and UF resin enables the production of boards which have considerably higher mechanical properties than those bonded with UF resins only. The investigations enable the selection of compositions which produce a lower emission of formaldehyde and simultaneously ensure high strength properties and water impermeability of the boards.
