Investigation of mixed-symmetry states in 94Mo

A powerful combination of a photon scattering experiment and a gamma gamma-coincidence study following the beta-decay of the J(pi) = (2)(+) low-spin isomere of Tc-94 was used to investigate low spin excitations in Mo-94. We paid special attention to proton-neutron mixed-symmetry (MS) states: The 1(+) scissors mode and the 2(+) MS state are identified from M1 transition strengths. A gamma transition between MS states was observed for the first time. The M1 and E2 transition strength are in reasonable agreement with calculations in the O(6) limit of the proton-neutron Version of the Interacting Boson Model (IBM-2).
