Synthesis of periodic mesoporous organosilicas via the "S+X-I+" route

Periodic mesoporous organosilicas (PMOs) were synthesized using bridged silsesquioxane 1,2-bis(triethoxysilyl)ethane as the precursor and cetylpyridinium bromide as the structure-directing species via the "S+X-I-" route. The products were characterized by means of N-2 adsorption, SEM. TEM, and FT-IR spectroscopy. Mesoporous phases with worm-like channels as well as uniform pores can be prepared via the "S+X-I-" route. The FT-IR analysis revealed that the ethane group remains intact in the channels of the PMOs and that the surfactant can be easily removed by solvent extraction. The synthesis conditions such as the concentration of surfactant. pH. and temperature were studied systematically. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Inc. All rights reserved.
