A double-series-coupled microring resonator can achieve a boxlike spectrum response and is applicable to wavelength selective switches. To realize this, however, it is necessary to optimize the coupling efficiencies between buslines and resonators and between resonators. Thus, we have derived analytical expressions for the optimum coupling efficiencies and have obtained analytically, in our previous work, the critical coupling efficiency. In this study, we experimentally examined the critical condition, and also clarified the correspondence between the critical coupling efficiencies and actual structural parameters of the coupler. From these data, the optimum length of the coupling region was obtained.
