Effect of Ti-coating on properties of CBN abrasives and vitrified bond tool

摘要
Effect of Ti-coating on properties of CBN abrasives and vitrified bond tools were investigated in this paper. The results showed that the properties of CBN abrasives with Ti coatings degraded, and strength between Ti-coated CBN abrasives and vitrified bond decreased. Thermal damage during the coating process at high temperature and poor thermal stability of Ti-coating were responsible for the degradation of properties of CBN abrasives with Ti-coating. Poor chemical compatibility and mismatching on thermal expansion coefficients were the main reason of low bonding strength between CBN abrasives with Ti-coating and vitrified bond. CBN abrasives with Ti-coating were not suitable for the preparation of vitrified bond tools.
