PARACLOACAL CYST IN A SUGAR GLIDER (PETAURUS BREVICEPS)

A 5-year-old castrated male sugar glider (Petaurus breviceps) was referred for a 2-week history of a left fluctuant pericloacal swelling and intermittent stranguria. Ultrasound of the abdomen and peridoacal area suggested a herniation of the urinary bladder with cystolithiasis. Upon surgical exploration, the bladder was normal, and a paracloacal cyst originating from the left cloacal wall was identified. Removal of the paracloacal cyst and subsequent histopathologic evaluation confirmed a cloacal wall cyst. Recovery from surgery was uneventful and long-term follow-up revealed no complications or recurrence. This is the first reported case of a paracloacal cyst in a sugar glider. Paracloacal cyst should be considered as a differential when presented with a pericloacal mass or swelling in a sugar glider. Copyright 2018 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
