摘要
In the present study different breed associated skin diseases of the West Highland White Terrier are presented. For the diagnosis of atopy case history, clinical picture and intradermal skin testing are very important. The Malassezia pachydermatis dermatitis is diagnosed more often. Predisposing factors for this disease are allergic and bacterial skin diseases, and the long-term application of antibiotics and glucocorticoids. Disorders of keratinisation like epidermal dysplasia and ichthyosis are rare findings, but should be considered as differential diagnosis in affected young animals. There is also a predisposition for demodicosis in the West Highland White Terrier, and diseased animals should be treated consequently and long enough. Follow-up examinations are recommendable. The similar clinical picture especially in chronic cases and the combined occurrence of the diseases can considerably complicate diagnostic procedures.
