QoS Based IP Mobility Management Scheme for the Next Generation SDN-LTE Network

摘要
The current Long Term Evolution (LTE) networking approaches are too rigid and limited in terms of offering QoS. The explosion of the advanced devices and the services are making the mobile networking more complex. The emerging end-user applications like video streaming, gaming demanding strict QoS requirements such as low latency, constant data rate guarantees. One of the important problems in the mobile communication is the IP handover process. The IP handoff mechanism plays a pivotal role towards the performance of the offered service. This paper analyzes the SDN (Software Defined Networking) based IP handoff mechanisms for the LTE networks. The integration of the SDN in the LTE mobile network has enabled the LTE network to realize the QoS based dynamic configuration of the resources. And this paper presents a new SDN based architecture for LTE packet core network for the enhanced QoS management. A dynamic QoS based IP handoff management procedure was proposed to handle the application-centric mobility management. Such QoS based hand over process will always ensure the required level of quality for the on-going connections according to the policies enforced by the SDN controller. The advantages of the proposed concepts are explained in brief.
