Deprotonation of [PhP(CH3)(3)](+) [I](-) with (BuLi)-Bu-t gives [Li-2{PhP(CH2)(3))}center dot 2thf](2) (1), whose [PhP(CH2)(3)](2-) anions is isoelectronic with the phosphonate dianion [RP(O)(3)](2-).
