A new species group, the Protohermes differentialis group of the dobsonfly genus Protohermes, is recognised. Two species belonging to the new species group from China are described and illustrated, including one new species. Neurhermes differentialis is transferred to the genus Protohermes, and Neurhermes fangchengensis is a new synonym of P. differentialis.
