摘要：

Eosinophilic otitis media (EOM) is a persistent middle ear inflammation with a highly-visceral tympanic effusion and eosinophilia. EOM does not respond to conventional therapies such as local or systemic antibiotics or myringotomy to drain the middle ear. Characteristically for EOM, patients have also asthma, and occasionally, they may have non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs-intolerance. The concentration of IgE in the middle ear pus is 10-fold higher than in serum of EOM patients. Further, the degree of sensorineural hearing loss in EOM patients correlates with the IgE concentrations in the middle ear. The efficacious therapy of EOM involves local steroid injections and in severe cases, the anti-IgE antibody omalizumab.
