Between Armed Struggle and Peace: An Approach to the Ripe Moment in the Colombian Armed Conflict (1982-2016)

The following work analyzes the concept of a "ripe moment" within the evolution of the armed conflict in Colombia from the beginning of the eighties to the present. This concept -widely addressed in the field of peace research and conflict resolution- has been poorly studied in the Colombian case. Methodologically, the work uses official figures on violence as well as in-depth interviews with leading actors. The conclusion is that the moment of "ripeness", understood as the ideal situation to negotiate, has only occurred in two instances. The first, at the end of the eighties, with different guerrilla structures among which the M-19 stands out, and the second, with the FARC-EP, and which led to the Peace Agreement signed in November of 2016.
