This paper presents the preparation of water soluble CdSe quantum dots of high quality by solvothermal method. The QDs have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-Vis spectroscopy (UV-vis), photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL). The XRD and TEM results show that CdSe QDs is of cubic crystalline phase having size in 2-5 nm range. Besides this UV-vis absorption spectrum gives the band gap of 3.45 eV for CdSe, further blue shift of PL spectra shows size quantization.
