A mixed-ligand complex [Cu(2-mpac)(SCN)(H2O)center dot H2O](n) (1) (2-mpac=5-methylpyrazine-2-carboxylic acid) bridged by thiocyanate has been obtained from reaction of Cu(NO3)(2)center dot 3H(2)O, 2-mpac and KSCN in aqueous solution and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, single crystal X-ray diffraction, X-ray powder diffraction and thermogravimetric analyses. Crystal data: triclinic, space group P-1, a= 0.5567(2) nm, b=1.0339(3) nm, c=1.0532(3) nm, alpha=64.030(2)degrees, beta=77.620(3)degrees, gamma=85.945(3)degrees, V= 0.5321(3) nm(3), Z= 2, S= 1.061, final R indices [I> 2 sigma(I)] R-1 = 0.0444, wR(2) = 0.0905, and for all reflections R-1=0.0647, wR(2)=0.0988. The result of magnetism characterization revealed that weak antiferromagnetic interaction existed between the Cu(II) centers.
