Intercalation of acceptors in C-60

Acceptor molecules have been reacted with C-60 to produce new intercalant compounds. The reactants intercalated in this study are AsF5, InCl3, and SbCl5. The reactions with AsF5 produced compounds containing AsF6- that were characterized with X-ray diffraction, far infrared absorption, and nuclear magnetic resonance. The room temperature resistivity of the compounds was on the order of 10(3)-10(4) Ohm cm with an excitation energy for conduction of 0.22 eV. The reactions with InCl3 produced compounds that were investigated with X-ray diffraction and far infrared absorption. They had room temperature resistivities of 10(2) Ohm cm and excitation energies of 0.043 eV. Both the AsF5 and InCl3 reacted compounds had semiconducting behaviors with a transition that was verified by differential thermal analysis. The SbCl5 compounds were characterized by far infrared absorption and showed a semiconducting behavior with an excitation energy of 0.65 eV.
