摘要
Potential applications of high-power CO2 and Nd:YAG lasers to create lightweight structures in the automotive, aeronautic and aerospace industries are described, and examples are given. The types of sheet metal employed include a carbon steel, superalloys, titanium alloys and aluminium alloys, with thickness ranging from 0.5 to 8 mm. The purposes of the research were to examine the possibility of assembling lightweight structures with minimal deformation, reducing total weight by combining current laser-welding techniques with particular structural designs, and improving properties and performance.
