摘要
In James Joyce's Ulysses, in the figures of the "centripetal remainer" and the "centrifugal departer", the author problematizes the dialetics of migration, that is, the tension between the appeal of rooting and the temptation of wandering, which would become a recurring theme throughout the 20th century and also in the 21st century. Departing from that dialectics, this work aims at the analysis of the representation of the conflict between generations of Indian immigrants in Jhumpa Lahiri's novels The Lowland and The namesake in the light of the theoretical perspectives of Michel Maffesoli, Simon Harel, John Berry e Homi Bhabha.
