摘要
Cast and wrought aluminum (Al) alloys are used in making vehicle structure components due to their light weight and good mechanical properties. In this paper, pulsed gas metal arc welding (P-GMAW) was employed to weld lap fillet joints between cast A356 and wrought 7003 Al alloy. The effect of torch angles and shielding gases on weld porosity distribution, and morphology was investigated. It was found that decreasing the torch angle helped in reducing porosity, which was explained by molten pool shape captured in high-speed camera. Addition of helium (He) into the shielding gas decreased the porosity in weld joints due to the increase of arc temperature that improved the welding heat input, especially with argon (Ar) + He + CO2 gas mixture.
