The effect of temperature on mechanical alloying of Fe-Al binary system

摘要
The mixtures of FeAl and FeAl3 have been mechanically alloyed using planetary high energy ball mill at room and liquid nitrogen temperatures respectively. The x-Ray diffraction, SEM and DSC are used respectively for analysis of the structures, morphology and the stability of the powders milled for different times. The size of particle milled at liquid nitrogen is smaller than that milled at room temperature. Cryomilling can make ductile material fining. This can shorten the time of mechanical alloying needed and increase the solubility of aluminum in iron. The stability of as-milled powders is increased by cryogenic mechanical alloying. The solubility of Al in Fe is different in mixture of powders with different content of Aluminum.
