Preparation and characterization of manganous manganic oxide (Mn3O4)

Manganous manganic oxide Mn3O4) in pure form has applications in electronic industries as one of the raw materials for the manufacture of professional grade Mn-Zn ferrites. At present, it is being imported into our country for use in the ferrite industry. Mn3O4) has been prepared in our laboratory by a simple method using locally available manganese sulfate and ammonium carbonate. The prepared Mn3O4NPL-Mn3O4) has been characterized for Mn content, crystalline phase, morphology, and impurities that are critical for ferrite manufacture. NPL-Mn3O4) has also been compared with the imported Mn3O4) being used by the Indian ferrite industry. (C) 2002 Kluwer Academic Publishers.
