摘要
This paper describes three Ka-band aeronautical satellite communications experiments using COMETS, the Japanese engineering test satellite. An aeronautical mobile station and a fixed ground station were also used. A Ka-band active phased array antenna and an open-loop antenna-tracking system were loaded on board an aircraft. In the fading experiment, we observed carrier waves reflected from the surface of the wing of an aircraft. In another experiment, we investigated COMETS' antenna pattern by measuring carrier waves while the aircraft new across the satellite's beam-coverage area. The measured antenna pattern matched the designed pattern. Finally, we transmitted data by using a 24kbps BPSK modem with coherent detection and one with differential detection at the fixed station to an aeronautical mobile station through COMETS' bent-pipe transponder. Measured bit error rate data for both types of modems were about 3 dB lower than theorized.
