Body Dysmorphic Symptoms Inventory: A Screening Instrument Background: Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is characterised by an excessive preoccupation with an imagined or slight imperfection in appearance. So far there are only few German-language instruments for the assessment of BDD. Thus, the goal of the current study was to develop a BDD questionnaire and to test its psychometric characteristics in the general population. Methods: 45 individuals with BDD (who met DSM-IV criteria, based on self-descriptions) and 45 control subjects participated in this study. Results: The FKS showed good internal consistency as well as discriminant validity. Conclusion: Our results suggest that the FKS is a reliable and valid self-report instrument. Future studies should evaluate the FKS in clinical samples.
