摘要
Mechanical response of electron-beam irradiated NiTi alloy at room temperature is studied in the present case. NiTi alloy specimens in parent phase (austenitic phase) were exposed to 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18 MeV electron-beam at room temperature. Each specimen was irradiated for 10 min at dose rate of 300 cGy/min. The stress-strain curves of both un-irradiated and electron beam irradiated specimens indicate that the stress required to start martensitic transformation (sigma(MS)) decreases with increase in irradiation energy. The X-Ray diffractometer analysis shows a reduction in the crystallinity of the specimens with increase in the irradiation energy. The decrease in sMS and the observed changes in mechanical properties of irradiated nitinol may be ascribed to lattice disorder which leads to amorphization of the alloy caused by electron irradiation.
