Compressive Characteristics of Aluminum-Fly Ash Syntactic Foams Processed by Microwave Sintering

摘要
Aluminum-fly ash (FA) syntactic foams were synthesized via powder metallurgy and hybrid microwave sintering for 30minutes. This minimized the formation of unwanted brittle interfacial products. Sphericity of FA microspheres was preserved, and significant density reduction of about 36pct was achieved. Compressive strength and energy-absorption characteristics of the samples reduced as the volume fraction (volpct) of FA microspheres increased from 20 to 40pct. These materials have potential applications as lightweight energy-absorption materials.
