摘要
Maintaining good adhesion of alumina scales to the surface of heat-resistant alloys is crucial for long-term cyclic oxidation resistance. Traditionally, this is accomplished by doping the alloy with about 0.1% reactive elements. More recently, excellent adhesion has been produced without reactive elements by reducing the sulfur impurity level to less than 1 ppm. Research opportunities exist in fundamentals of sulfur segregation, thermodynamics, and interfacial bonding.
