摘要
The integration of high-speed lasers with electrical switches on a semiconductor chip is now occurring in commercial devices. The evolution of these devices during the last decade is described, with emphasis on both circuit engineering and materials design and processing. These devices have recently been used to transmit 10(12) bits/sec through a single optical fiber.
