摘要：

The sustainability assessment is becoming a worldwide matter as more and more organizations are creating various methodologies for comparing countries in terms of sustainable development. This paper tries to test the association between the human development index and the environmental performance index by conducting a cross-sectional study for 105 countries in three points in time: 2000, 2006 and 2012. Previously, the analysis of GDP-GHG emissions-energy use-population nexus was conducted for emphasizing the outliners and for understanding better the correlation between the human development index and the environmental performance index. The results suggest a positive association between the 2 indices. The statistical significance was tested and it also generated positive results. Further studies should focus on assessing the sustainability by analyzing more aggregated indicators in space and time.
