摘要
The rubber compound used for a tire tread is a composite material of which the dynamic properties can be adjusted over a relatively broad range by modification of the polymer-filler interaction. For silica-reinforced compounds, control over the polymer-filler interaction is realized by chemical coupling of the silica to the rubber by different silane coupling agents. Different molecular structures lead to changes in macroscopic material properties including wet skid resistance. The understanding of the polymer-filler interaction, helps to answer the key question: Which type of polymer-silica bonds govern wet skid phenomena: weak (physical) or strong (chemical) bonds?
